Presently causing me problems is this little gem. Baltika, brewed in St Petersburg and now available in the UK and in our pub. At 500 ml its just under a pint and is quite heavenly. Strong and tasty but, remarkably, causes absolutely no hangover. I have a somewhat limited capacity for alcohol but a large predilection for hangovers; yet however hard I try I have yet to feel rough after a night on this stuff. What it does do is cause me to wake extraordinarily early. Hence I am posting at 4:40 am.
I have a mate here. A Czech guy, early 30s, called Pavel. That was him in the picture with me. Pavel and I have a fractious relationship in that the major love of his life, beer, is expensive in our pub. Its about 15% more expensive than two other pubs near him. Of course our pub is about 50% nicer than those pubs and I try to explain to him that I do not need to compete with these pubs ( which are much more "drinkers' pubs" than ours) but he doesn't seem to understand why I will not lower the price for him. At the moment I suspect his major reason for coming to us is his desire to sleep with either Anna or the other barperson, Maddi. As Anna's husband is upstairs in the kitchen his chances are slim with her. Maddi is 18 and has better things to do than Pavel. Anyway, my point is that he annoys me, which is disappointing as I thought that I had found a kindred spirit in these parts.
It also annoys me that he doesn't drink the Baltika. He agrees its excellent and at a good price but its Russian....
Hey Bubba, this is our favorate beer. I have had it many times , well as a matter of fact every time I go I have it and in large amounts. Tomorrow is Marynas birthday and I will try to find her some here at one of the beer store's.

Baltica has been available in Progress Bar, Tufnell Park for a couple of years, and it is, I can confirm, a bloody nice beer.
